October 5 - Vision

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision the people perish; but he that keepeth the law happy is he.”

Being blind, whether born that way or gradually losing your sight is a horrible thing. It is so easy to get lost, trip and fall and hurting yourself, and not seeing danger coming toward you, all because you cannot see. You cannot see the people around you, whether they are smiling or crying, angry, disinterested or disgusted. Without vision we become dependent on others who can see. In context, this word vision means a consciousness or responsibility regarding keeping the law. People perish for its lack of enforcement, but the one who is such times keep the law is blessed and happy. But as we look at the Hebrew word for vision it could carry another meaning as well. It is the Hebrew word “chazon” which means divine communication through a spoken word, thought, dream, revelation or VISION. If we can’t see it, we can’t believe it or possess it. God has called us to be “Saints”, “Trees of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord that He would be glorified.” If we cannot see ourselves the way God sees us, it may not just be us who perishes, but those our life influences every day. For a Spirit revealed vision, we must see people as Christ-followers or not. Those who we see as “not”, we must begin to envision the path to which they could come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord. If we as Saints are not a clear representation of Jesus, or do not envision them coming to know Jesus, they will perish. So, let’s begin asking Holy Spirit to open our eyes and our heart and empower us to open our mouth.
